Welcome
wrestling fans to a long overdue new edition of "The Ringside
Report". General Grevas has had a plethora of computer issues
lately which has made it quite hard to update this column as you
might imagine. I do apologize for the lack of updates but enough
about me. Last weekend was CyberClash 5.0 from my hometown of
Norwood, Ohio and for those who missed it, the show lived up to
its hype and then some. From top to bottom the show delivered in
every possible way and its a night no one will soon forget.
Andre Heart ended his career on the highest of high notes,
defeating King Vu, Richard Phillips in a downright brutal street
fight. The childhood best friends turned enemies threw
everything except the kitchen sink at each other and despite
being away from the ring for the past year, Andre reached down
deep and somehow managed to earn the victory.
Also at CyberClash, Jon Moxley retained his HWA Heavyweight
Title against "The Madness" Chris Hall in a back and forth
encounter that pushed both men to their limits. Madness told me
after the match that despite not winning the title, he's eager
to keep pushing and not fall out of championship contention.
Madness is a determined man and losing the match to Moxley is
only going to motivate him more in his quest for championship
gold. The Noble Bloods lost to The Flying Mendoza Brothers via
count out, thus keeping their titles. The Mendozas pushed the
champs to their breaking point and showed to the world that they
are indeed one of the premiere teams in the world. A rematch
between these two teams is forthcoming and I for one would not
be surprised to see new champions. Damian Daniels, filling in
for Shank Barzini, defeated Gilbert in a matter of seconds.
Daniels showed to the wrestling world that he's the real deal
and not someone to take lightly. Jesse Emerson continued his
winning ways, retaining his HWA American Luchacore Championship
over Ron Mathis. Mathis, never at a loss for words, is still
protesting the outcome. Why am I not surprised?
The first show after CyberClash was another action packed
evening. The show was headlined by a tag match featuring all of
the HWA's champions as The Noble Bloods defeated Jon Moxley and
Jesse Emerson. After the match, Emerson and Moxley were at each
others throats, prompting Emerson to challenge Moxley to a match
next week, with the HWA Heavyweight Title on the line. This is a
personal dream match for myself. Both Moxley and Emerson have
been on fire so far in 2010 and are two of the pound for pound
best wrestlers in the world right now. Even if I were a betting
man, there's no way I could favor one man over the other. This
contest has "instant classic" written all over it and is worth
traveling from anywhere in the country just to see.
Sid A Mania continues to run wild all over the HWA. Is there a
more popular wrestler in the HWA right now? Sid Fabulous has
become the fans choice to rally behind and the crowd reaction to
Sid can be downright deafening, no matter where he is competing.
Sid defeated Jock Sampson at CyberClash and Ron Mathis just four
days later. Sid's potential knows no limits and I'd love to see
him get a shot at a HWA title in the near future.
Congratulations to Kyle Haven for earning his first career
victories in singles competition. At CyberClash, Haven defeated
Random Dragon in a bonus match and followed that up with a win
over Tarek the Legend a few days later. Kyle Haven has certainly
fought long and hard to gain respect in the HWA and earning
these two impressive wins points him in the right direction.
Kyle is a student of the game and has the passion and desire to
make it in the wrestling business. Now that he's earned his
first wins, its time for Kyle to step up to the next level and
here's hoping that he can.
That's going to wrap up this edition of "The Ringside Report".
Thank you for taking the time to read this column and as always,
any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Please feel
free to email me at
Grevas1984@aol.com with any feedback, comments or
suggestions for this column or the web site in general. Stay
tuned to HWAOnline.com for all late breaking news and
developments. A new "1 on 1" interview with Ron Mathis should be
up on the site in the next few days and as always, Mathis has a
lot to say. The HWA has shows each and every Wednesday at The
Sorg in Middletown, Ohio and next week will be headlined by HWA
Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley defending his title against
American Luchacore Champion Jesse Emerson in a match you won't
want to miss. Thank you again and I'll see you at ringside!
